We had an incredible vegan feast for my 22nd Birthday including a buckwheat frisée apple salad, chilled squash coconut ginger soup with lime (recipes to come), and a vegan mint ice cream cake with graham cracker crust for dessert (recipe here: http://kaletothequeen.weebly.com/1/post/2012/08/vegan-ice-cream-birthday-cake.html)
It was a crazy night of bar hopping in downtown LA with best friends! Today was the first screening of Dorothy of Oz at the Warner Brothers Studios. Dorothy of Oz (title might actually be changing) is the movie that my family's film company is making and even though it is animated and geared towards kids, I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed it. It is the story of when Dorothy returns to Oz and it has an amazing cast.
After the screening there was a cocktail party at the Beverly Hilton, which was very fancy and I met and saw several famous people. It was such a fun day and I am so excited for the success of this movie! It is amazing how after being a slave for Disney I still LOVE playing in parks.. and it is just as magical as ever! Wayne, Jessie and I had the most fabulous day together at Disneyland and California Adventure. They now have a NEWSIES show in California Adventure which made me feel like I was 14 again! I sang and clicked my heels together and am now obsessed all over again. It is so crazy how famous it is now. I wish I were a guy so I could go audition for the Broadway show.
Anyway, we also had marvelous time dancing and singing with the Five and Dime (TWICE), crying while watching the Fireworks, trying to be Lazy Klaw on Space and doing the jumping green monkey dance and scarf dance while watching Fantasmic, having fancy cocktails while becoming best friends with a cast member...and much more. Let's just say it was a day filled with magical moments! Stand up Paddle Boarding is so much fun! Emily, Mom and I had a blast. We were so good that we ended up doing yoga on the boards. We did it in Marina Del Ray (one of my favorite areas). AND there was a seal family circling my board. If you don't already know, I have this strange connection to seals. I am actually a selkie like in The Secret of Roan Inish. Whenever I go to the beach they always call me into the water. I literally cannot stop myself from diving into the ocean and they always come very close to me. One even brushed my leg once! They can actually be quite dangerous because they are very territorial. So anyway, today when I was on my board, there was a mom and a dad seal and the were circling my board and going under it! Then they swam over to the boat dock where their baby was basking in the sun. The dad was blowing bubbles and making weird noises so I tried not to get close.
We had a wonderful time! I was really bad at steering my board against the current and there were several instances where I was in the path of large ships. But I was great at balancing! I also met a groovy baby boomer hippy who went by on his boat asking me how to get to the beach. It was really funny. We stopped at Rainbow natural foods where I bought some Salba and we had lunch at Mendocino Farms (roasted vegetable salad and buckwheat bread with bean soup). Then we went to Venice Beach. We napped and mom gave me a massage! Then around 5 I went swimming. This is my favorite time to swim because the sun is low in the sky and the water is warmer than the air. I stayed in until the lifeguard wistled at me to get out (I don't know why). Then we went for a nice long walk down the coast and did Tai Chi. It was the perfect day! |
